SIDE STEPPING across the pool holding onto Theraquatics Giant Noodle with hole, is a great exercise to develop hip strength and balance. An effective exercise to help prevent falls.

Grant has cerebral palsy and an acquired brain injury, he has difficulties with balance and his gait. Building the muscles around his hips enhances his pelvic stability and balance. Good hip strength also helps to improve his control over his lower body movements and gait [walking]. Grant participates in Hydrotherapy for 60minutes once per week. He is instructed and supervised by an Exercise Physiologist. He also participates in land based exercises.

AQUAFIT SAUSAGE FLOAT - item 9309
This sausage-shaped float is used as knee support to maximise comfort and relaxation while floating on the back. Can also be used to elevate the legs by placing the sausage float under the ankles or knees. You can keep the Sausage float straight or clip it together to form a horse shoe shape.

The Aquafit range of floats has been specifically designed for aquatic therapy and exercise. These floats are to be used under the supervision of a qualified professional. Aquafit floats are not to be regarded as a life preserver.

For the aquatic professional:
The Aquafit Sausage Float is a very versatile float. In supine float it can be placed under knees or ankles to maintain good posture or used as a thoracic support for very dense patients to also encourage appropriate posture and increase stability. It can be positioned under the axillas in prone swimming when some assistance is required eg: patients with shoulder problems. The Aquafit Sausage Float may serve as an extra head support in supine float either by itself or in conjunction with another style collar or pillow, or just be used under the arms for vertical suspension activities. May be used as a pommel to maintain hip abduction during water based activities e.g. upper limb sculling.

Further uses include having the Aquafit Sausage Float under the knees and clipped to tether the supine patient to the rail for arm exercises or for manual traction.

Finally, our Aquafit Sausage Float can be tethered to other sausage floats to create a stable mobile rail for pools with no rails, or to promote social interaction in group activities.

The Aquafit Sausage Float is made from polyester fabric and polystyrene beads.

Aquafit Body Sling with Handles - item 9875AH. This pool float allows swimmers to be well supported on their back, while their support person holds onto the handles of the body sling under the shoulder blades. The swimmer can then perform active and passive exercises floating on their back with their Hydrotherapist.

The addition of handles on the body sling allows the support person or assistant to hold securely to the body sling, preventing hand fatigue. The support person is able to hold the swimmer still on the spot or move the swimmer around the pool holding onto the handles.

This Body Sling with Handles is 15cm longer than other body slings and offers great support and stability around the hips and torso.

BODY SLING with handles - item 9876AH
A great pool float for swimmers with severe disability such as brain injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injuries. The swimmer lies securely within the sling and the person assisting can hold onto the handles underneath the sling. This allows the Hydrotherapist to perform stretches, passive and active exercises on the upper and lower body. This body sling is larger and longer than other body slings which offers greater torso support and stability. The head of the swimmer can be supported by the chest or shoulder of the assistant or an Aquafit Neck Float (Item 9401A) or Aquafit Posture Pillow (Item 9307A).

The handles on this body sling enable an assistant or Disability Support Worker to hold the sling under the shoulder blades without getting hand fatigue.

The Aquafit Body Sling with handles (adult) is made from polyester weave and polystyrene beads.
Has generous proportions, is very stable and is slightly longer than the standard adult sized Aquafit Body Sling (9875A) by 15cms.

THE STOMP - a great exercise to strengthen the lower body and improve balance. Holding onto the ends of the noodle with both hands, position the arch of the foot over the centre of the noodle. Allow the knee to rise up to hip level then push downwards like you are stomping the ground. Keeping leaning forward with the chest. Once you have gained good control over the noodle and balance has improved, you can progress to performing the stomp hands free. This exercise strengthens the thigh and hip muscles as well as develops balance.
